At the beginning of the day, start to use Habitrol Lozenge before you smoke any cigarettes. Use 1mg if you smoke less than 20 cigarettes in a day. Use the 2mg if you smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day or if previously the 1mg did not work for you. Suck one lozenge slowly when you feel the urge to smoke. The nicotine must be absorbed through the lining in the mouth, not swallowed into the stomach, to be effective. So, suck the lozenge slowly, so it remains whole for about 30 minutes. Do not use more than one lozenge in an hour. Do not chew or swallow the lozenge. Do not more than 25 of the 1mg and 15 of the 2mg in one day. Most people use 8 to 12 in one day. Other ingredients are malititol, sodium carbonate anhydrous, sodium bicarbonate, polyacrylate dispersion, santhan gum, silica (colloidal anhydrous), menthol, peppermint oil, aspartame and magnesium stearate.

Nicotine, like all other medicines, may cause unwanted side effects in some people. There may be slight irritation of the throat and increase salivation when you start using the lozenge. Some common side effects are dizziness, headache, dry mouth, nausea, heartburn, flatulence, or hiccups. Uncommon side effects are heart palpitations. Some rare side effects are rapid or irregular heartbeat or allergic reactions.
